So, I'm in the middle of writing a paper for one of my classes on Generation Y...my generation..
I'm having to define what has made us team players and why we have the desire to have it all and live life to the fullest...when I read an article talking about how living through the tragedies of the first Gulf War, Columbine, Virgina Tech and other events have brought us together.
Then, I decided to look up Columbine. Did you know that the 10th Anniversary of Columbine is Monday, April 20??
It's been 10 YEARS. 10 YEARS! Ten years ago when it happened, it was out of school "sick" because I had just gotten back from the beach with my grandparents and two cousins (our yearly trip to the Outer Banks). I cannot believe it. It's like remembering what I was doing on 9/11 (I was also out of school sick that day...only this time I really was sick and I remember seeing it, going to the doctor, and then sleeping and remembering listening to the news for the next week).
And this got me thinking...
When Virgina Tech happened, I don't remember if I skipped class (I probably did), but I was at App, and I had JUST found out I got into UNC Asheville...like, the day before I think. And the first time I saw Catherine (a good friend I went to high school and App with), after it happened she was congratulating me on getting to transfer, and then started talking about how crazy the Virgina Tech thing was. And I started crying. We were having our morning muffin before class that morning in Cascades (a cafe in the student union at App) and I started crying.
I remember this because it was the first time I had been emotional in pubic since I was probably six.
Now, I realize that was me breaking down a little wall I had, and realizing it was ok to be emotional.
I don't know why this came to me tonight, but it did. And, because I use this as my personal journal sometimes, I needed to write it down so that later I can try to figure it out.
On a lighter note, I rediscovered my LOVE for the band Built to Spill and it makes me miss high school, Pony's house, and Tillman's singing.

April makes me want red tulips.
It's April.
WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN??
On the plus side, April has brought some pretty great stuff!
First, THIS SEMESTER IS ALMOST OVER!
School is getting old. And even though I'm taking summer classes (French 1 and 2) and doing my internship, I'm SOOO ready to be done with these classes.
Also, I have pledged and gone through most of my new member classes, and I INITIATE this weekend into Alpha Xi Delta Women's Fraternity. I am SOOOO beyond happy about this!!
Also, today, I was in class and my phone vibrates...it's a text from Kathryn...she's having a baby boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG, I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY!
BTW: When you're bored and reading this...my favorite name is Avery. Avery James or Samuel?? Just a suggestion! I'm not having kids, so I'm passing along my favorite names to people!
That's really all I have...As soon as finals are over and I have time to breathe, I really want to get back to posting, and make it at least an every week thing.
Also, I'm taking intro to creative writing this fall, so I want to post some of my stories for the WORLD! I'm a little nervous, but excited! I'm finally realizing that the reason I'm not ready to graduate is because I don't think I've gotten everything out of college I'm supposed to yet, so now that I have validation, I'm going to pull a Van Wilder/Corey Council and stay in school as long as it takes for me to be ready.
Now, I'm going to bed. Because even though I have a group meeting tomorrow and my draft is due, I CANNOT sleep through my 10:50 class anymore!!
