The essentials.

For all of my friends going off to college soon, I will attempt to help you out. The following list shows what the essentials to every college student are.

A white board—
These things are ABSOLUTELY NESSISARY. It’s unbelievable. You can use one of the smaller ones, just as long as you have one. You can write when papers and homework are due. You can also draw funny stuff on it when you’re bored and erase it really quick. Dorm art and a message board all in one!!

Knowledge of the use of RateMyProfessor.com—
Okay, if you’ve never used ratemyprofessor.com you need to go to that website. Immediately. This site has almost every college in the country on it, and about 90% of the professors at those schools are already in the system. If you’re trying to figure out what class to take or what teacher to take it with, the ratings and comments can help out a lot. And remember, if you ever have an asshole as a professor, rate them! You’ll help out your fellow classmates!

A debit card—
Now, I don’t personally have a debit card (or a checking account) but very soon I shall have one. These things are GREAT! I’m really bad with keeping up with paper money, and this card takes up a lot less space than an entire wallet! You can just stick it in your pocket and you’re good to go! And, let’s face it, almost EVERYWHERE you go (especially around campus) they accept debit cards.

An extensive DVD collection—
Let’s face it, there are going to be nights when there is either nothing really fun going on at campus or you’re too tired from the past week of parties that you just want to stay in your room and chill out. Take every DVD that you have acquired to your dorm. Get more DVDs while you’re at college. Nothing will come in more handy on a slow night than a funny/uplifting/scary movie that you haven’t seen in a while. Plus, you can always break out those romantic comedies when you’re alone with that special guy.

A three-hole punch—
You’re not in high school anymore. When a professor passes around all of those hand-outs, you’re going to need to find some way to get it in your binder. Especially if you have one of those professors that likes to check your notebook (yes, they do that in college, too). So, go to Wal-Mart and get a three-hole punch for, like, $4 and you’ll be set.

Post-It notes –
You would never believe how much these things come in handy! By the end of a semester, I can guarantee that either your computer monitor or that wall beside of your computer will have little yellow papers stuck all over it. They’re great for remembering numbers and dates and stuff. Heck, you can even stick a couple on your white board!

A stapler –
Professors cannot hate anything more than having to find their stapler for you when you come to class with an assignment that hasn’t already been stabled. Buy one, along with a large box of refills.

Just for fun—
Procrastination in college is going to happen. But, don’t just procrastinate by hanging around your room, or going to the cafeteria. Check out some of these links when you’re bored:
